Bulletin #2: Negotiation Meeting for Claims for the Contract Period 2017-2019 held Tuesday, September 5, 2017...We Walked Out!

Consequent on a letter to the Ministry of Finance and the Public service expressing severe unease and restiveness over that lack of start to the negotiations, the JCSA met with the negotiating team from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service on September 5, 2017 at 10 AM to commence those negotiations.

We must report that we walked out of the meeting after 1 hour as the Government team was not able to make an offer on any of the 55 items in our claim. This does not include wages.

We expressed to the team that whilst they are the messengers, the GoJ does not take our claim seriously and that it is an insult for them to come to meet with us without one offer on the table. We have demanded that the Government team goes back to their principals and reconvene with firm offers on the table relating to our claim for the 2017–2019 period.

We advised them that we are willing to meet at any time and for long hours to settle the negotiations.

At any point that the JCSA negotiating team feels that the Government’s offer to settle the Claim is reasonable, we will present our opinion to the membership at a series of meetings across the island.
